STATE EXAM IN PEDIATRICS

Every year the elegant hall of Road clinical hospital No 1 of Southern-Western Railway, on which base there is the department of pediatrics No 1, headed by Professor O.V. Tiazhka, is transformed into a large exam room.

The department took care so that it would be comfortable both for teachers and students. The experienced and well known in University teachers from different clinical departments sit at individual desks.

The students come to the meeting with these examiners after they pass through the practical part of exam, where they examined models of newborns, make different treatment measures, related to the health care of babies.

MEETING OF STUDENTS’ PARLIAMENT

The last meeting of Students’ Parliament in 2014-2015 academic year took place on 3, June, 2015. The peculiarity of meeting was the largest amount of students, who came, and the presence of university administration, in particular, rector Amosova K.M. and the first prorector Ya.V. Tsekhmister.

The meeting started from awarding the winners in draw of U-T-shirts (a charitable action to support the construction of hospital OKHMATDIT): Anna Gergel, Andrii Dmytrenko and Illia Leoshko.

The first issue in agenda was to approve the delegates from studentship to the Conference of labor collective (only 10% of students were included into CLC before, now 15% pursuant to University Charter). The chairmen of students’ councils at faculties introduced the new delegates and the present people had no objects to the chosen candidates.

After that they heard the report about work of all divisions this year. In particular, the following persons reported: the head of academic scientific division – Kseniia Fomenko, head of information division – Tetiana Kravets, head of external relations division – Kostiantyn Kovalishyn, head of University security service – Mykola Korotya, head of housing and household division – Serhii Vapelnyk, head of public activity division – Yuliia Pinchuk.

Rector Kateryna Amosova expressed some proposals to improve the work of Students’ Parliament, shared with plans for the next year and emphasized the circle of the most urgent issues, which require the joint decision with University administration, in particular, the issue of free attendance of lectures, expediency in lecture reading in 4^th-5^th courses, paid completion of missed classes without valid reasons, etc. The head of University thanked the students for performed work and wished further successes in public activity.

At the end of the meeting acting chairman in Students’ Parliament Petro Zgurskyy summed up the results of work for year and informed about his retirement from the post. Anton Chebotarenko was appointed as the acting chairman in Students’ Parliament until election of chairman in Students’ Parliament that will take place in next academic year.
The head of information division of Students’ Parliament Tetiana Kravets mentioned: “We thank those ones, who support us, take part in work and introduce proposals to improve and to perfect our activity. We are always open to new people in our team!”

THE FUTURE OF PREVENTIVE MEDICAL SCIENCE IS IN GOOD HANDS!

The 2^nd stage in all-Ukrainian competition of students’ scientific works on natural, technical and humanitarian sciences in the sphere “Preventive medicine” in 2014/2015 a.y. was held on 24, March, 2015 at O.O. Bohomolets National medical university.

According to the order from MHC of Ukraine O.O. Bohomolets NMU was acknowledged as the basic establishment on performance of the 2^nd tournament in Competition, it established the sectoral competition commission, headed by rector, corresponding member in NAMS of Ukraine, professor Amosova K.M.

Due to results from review of the works, submitted to the Competition the members in sectoral competition commission sent the invitations to the authors of the best works for participation in final scientific practical conference for scientific report and defense of the work. 20 scientific works, whose authors were 27 students of 10 higher schools from all regions of Ukraine, were recommended for participation in the mural stage of the 2^nd tournament.

The thematic palette of scientific researches was extremely wide and covered the issues about prevention of chronic non-infectious diseases, including the diseases of blood circulatory system, struggle against very dangerous diseases, in particular, tuberculosis and AIDS, reduction in spread of risk factors for chronic and infectious pathology, formation of healthy lifestyle, breast-feeding, improvement in organization of medical aid, medical rehabilitation, as well as hygienic assessment of ambient air, peculiarities for accumulation of Cesium-137 in environmental media, epidemiological analysis on polymorphism of genes, epidemiological clinical peculiarities for diarreagenic colibacillosis, social demographic characteristics for hospital patients with viral hepatitis, etc.
Taking into consideration the proper level in preparation of scientific works and high level in their presentation, the determination of the winners in Competition was rather a difficult task. The composition of jury included the leading specialists in the sphere of preventive medicine, heads at department and professors of O.O. Bohomolets NMU and other higher schools of Ukraine. The criteria to assess the scientific works were the actuality and novelty of the work, methodology and methodic for performance of researches, logic, succession and completeness in statement of material, practical significance of submitted conclusions, independence of performed research, as well as execution and introduction of presentation.

The sectoral competition commission at its meeting took the decision about determination of the winners pursuant to reviews and open discussion of scientific works.

5 students’ scientific works were defined as the best due to results from mural stage in the 2^nd tournament of Competition. The 1^st place was assigned to the students’ scientific work “Medical social aspects of lifestyle and ways for prevention of non-infectious diseases at medical students” (author Fedorenko Ya.S., O.O. Bohomolets NMU), the 2^nd place – 2 works: “Improvement in quality of medical aids to patients with arterial hypertension pursuant to implementation of internal audit mechanism” (authors Zaytseva T.O. Krasnopolska N.V., Sumy state university) and “Hygienic assessment of ambient air in settlements in Galytskyy district in Ivano-Frankivsk region” (Yosypyshyn D.P., O.O. Bohomolets NMU), the 3^rd place – 2 works: “Contribution by famous territorial sanitary doctors in Katerynoslavschyna at the end of XIX – beginning of XX century into public health preservation” (author Li A.R., SE “Dnipropetrovsk medical academy”) and “Information, psychological, intensive factors for breast feeding by females from countryside in Poltava region” (authors Synenko V.A., Pylypenko I.V., HSSEU “Ukrainian medical dental academy”).

The winners in all-Ukrainian competition of students’ scientific works on natural, technical and humanitarian sciences in the sphere “Preventive medicine” received the diplomas and valuable gifts. All participants received the certificates.

The participants think that the important result from performed event was the open exchange with scientific achievements, establishment of new creative elations, and meaningful advice to young scientists by leading specialists in the sphere of preventive medicine. The results of Competition testify that the future of preventive medical science is in good hands.

CONFERENCE OF UKRAINIAN SOCIETY OF THERAPEUTISTS

The conference of Ukrainian society of therapeutists, which organizers were Ukrainian society of therapeutists and department of internal medicine No 1 at O.O. Bohomolets NMU, took place on 19-20, March, 2015 at conference hall of physical chemical building of NMU. The chairman in Ukrainian society of therapeutists, Doctor of Medicine, head at department of internal medicine No 1 at O.O. Bohomolets NMU, professor V.G. Perederiy made the welcome speech to present people.
The lecturers, invited from Germany (professor I. Kozloff), Holland (professor Ch. Mulder), Poland (professor I. Chvorostovska-Vninko), and leading Ukrainian specialists made the scientific reports at the conference.

Day 1. Basics of genomic and personified medicine – a school for doctors of all specialties.

Day 2. Problem of gastrointestinal bleeding in clinical practice.

THE CONFERENCE OF STUDENTS APPROVED THE NEW PROVISION ABOUT STUDENTS’ SELF-GOVERNMENT

The Conference of students, devoted to approval of the new Provision about students’ self-government, took place on 19, March, 2015 at conference hall in physical chemical building. According to the decision by Students’ parliament the Conference was convoked pursuant to the new Provision that anticipated the participation of a representative from each group, monitors of courses, batches, chairmen in students’ councils of faculties and hostels in it.

751 delegates of Conference, among them 509 persons were present that is sufficient for performance of Conference, were elected in total.

The delegates of Conference elected the working presidium, which included the chairmen in students’ councils of faculties and the head – Chebotarenko Anton.

2 working commissions were elected: counting commission (4 persons) – to count the votes during voting and the secretariat (2 persons) – to compose the protocol, to render the assistance to presidium on different issues. The Conference procedure was approved: report – up to 30 minutes, questions – up 2 minutes, speech and discussion – up to 5 minutes. Acting chairman in Students’ parliament Zgurskyy Petro made the speech about procedure for discussion and introduction of changes into Provision during last 4 months, as well as presented the main changes in Provision about students’ self-government (the presentation is attached). After report anyone, who desired, could ask any question about procedure for election of chairman in Students’ parliament, chairmen in students’ councils of faculties and monitors in the first course. The students were also interested how and to whom the scores for public activity will be accrued. After all questions were answered they started the discussion. The following persons spoke in support of Provision: chairman in students’ council of medical faculty No 1 Lizin Dan, chairman in PO “Studdovira” Giliuk Vasyl and chairman in students’ council of medical faculty No 2 Burlachenko Illya. The main coordinator in initiative group “Revival of NMU” Bebik Iryna emphasized the importance of this Provision and called the students to more consciousness.

Voting results were: “positive” – 491, “negative” – 11, “abstain” – 7. Thus, the Provision about students’ self-government at O.O. Bohomolets NMU was approved by the Conference of students and recommended for consideration by the Conference of labor collective.

VI INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF STUDENTS IN PORTUGAL

VI International congress of medical students “Annual International Medical Students Meeting – AIMS Meeting” took place on 13-15, March, 2015 in the capital of Portugal – city Lisbon on the base of Medical faculty at Lisbon university and Central hospital in c. Lisbon.

During four days of the congress the following most famous professionals in the sphere of medicine read the lectures:

- Professor in division of emergency aid at Medical university in c. Vienna (Austria) - MD MBA W.Behringer – “Therapeutic hypothermia – when to cool the patient”;
- Head in division of otorhinolaryngology at Egas Moniz Hospital, c. Lisbon (Portugal) MD PhD P.Escada – “The olfactory mucosa autografts and spinal cord injuries”.
In addition, the program was full of different master classes on instrumental methods of research, surgery, intensive care and emergency aid, biochemistry, etc. that enabled the future medical men to improve their theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

One of the most interesting theoretical classes was “Shock your brain” that was held by clinicians from neurosurgical and neuropsychiatry division. It was devoted to the newest methods for deep stimulation of brain that are used to treat Parkinson disease, idiopathic tremors and multilocular sclerosis. It is interesting that the use of this method in countries of Europe has the peculiarities in comparison with national one. It relates to the difference in legislative acts that govern the performance of this procedure.

Other people were interested in class on rendering the aid at emergencies in pediatrics. The participants had the excellent possibility to listen to the theoretical material about algorithm to render the emergency medical aid to children, to determine and to master the possibilities for protocols on rendering the aid of American and European form, and then two hours practical class on methods for performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation on models of different types (“newborn”, “childish”, “school” age) was performed. It was pleasant that teachers with satisfaction performed the master classes in English if there were foreigners in the group of students (up to 12 persons). 22 works, which were presented by students from higher medical schools in Portugal, Poland, Czech, Romania, Slovakia, Norway and Italy, were selected for participation in scientific and clinical plenary meetings. The only participants in the conference from Ukraine were the students of the 3^rd medical faculty at O.O. Bohomolets National medical university Dolgopolova Oksana (5^th course) and Korniyko Yelizaveta (3^rd course) with the research on topic «Paroxysmal autonomic failure treatment effectiveness evaluation in children with thyroid gland pathology background”, which was held on the base of department of pediatrics No 4 (head at department – academician in NAMS of Ukraine, Doctor of Medicine, professor V.G. Maydannyk) and CCH No 6 in c. Kyiv under supervision of Doctor of Medicine, professor I.O. Mitiuriayeva. This work describes the issues about the newest methods for diagnostics and treatment of paroxysmal vegetative insufficiency at children on the background of thyroid pathology. The jury was interested in used methods for cardiointervalography and capillaroscopy and received results that disclose the new pathophysiological relations between the thyroid pathology and abnormality in regulation of autonomous nervous system.

Besides, they mentioned the necessity in further advanced study of this problem as the efficiency in application of medicine “Noofen”, proved during performance of research, if these pathological states are united, anticipates the improvement in quality of life at children that is the main purpose of performed work.
All events within the conference were organized at the highest level. The participants were delighted with saturation of timetable for conference thanks to this the time had passed quickly and interesting.
The brilliant cultural events – concerts, international meetings, excursion to the center of city Lisbon – were performed at the end of each day of conference for participants.

The participation of students from O.O. Bohomolets National medical university in international meetings and high assessment of their work is the achievement of the whole academic establishment, thus, we hope for fruitful work and wish further successes!

TO WORLD GLAUCOMA WEEK 2015

Glaucoma is mostly a social problem. Among diseases that cause to blindness glaucoma is the most insidious. The blindness comes unnoticeably, gradually, painlessly (in most cases). Namely this explains the fact that the patients consult a doctor when it is very late and it becomes impossible to return or to preserve the eyesight.

The term “glaucoma” in modern ophthalmology unites the group of diseases that have different origin but the common symptoms: higher intraocular pressure (IOP), tunneling of vision, and development of optic nerve atrophy. We need to struggle against it only uniting the efforts of the whole community – patients, specialists, state, international organizations. Taking into consideration the medical, social economical significance of glaucoma, No Blindness Day was announced in 2008 for the first time in order to support the initiative by World Glaucoma Association (WGA) and World Glaucoma Patients Association (WGPA) and World Glaucoma Week was implemented since 2011, the events within which limits are held in most countries all over the world.

Ukraine supported this initiative. This year a number of events: lectures for patients, glaucoma screening, and speeches by specialists-ophthalmologists in mass media were held since 9 until 15, March in all regions according to the letter from MHC of Ukraine.

On 10 and 11, March, 2015 in assembly hall of administrative building of Eye Microsurgery Center at the address: Komarova avenue, 3. The thematic lecture “GLAUCOMA” for family doctors – chief ophthalmologist of HCD in c. Kyiv, assistant professor at department of ophthalmology at O.O. Bohomolets NMU Olena Ivanivna Kurylina.
On 11, March, 2015 in lecture hall, building 6 in Oleksandrivska hospital – lecturer, chief ophthalmologist of HCD in c. Kyiv, assistant professor at department of ophthalmology at O.O. Bohomolets NMU Olena Ivanivna Kurylina, in lecture hall of medical college in MCH No 1 – lecturer Nataliia Mykolayivna Veselovska.
On 12, March, 2015 in polyclinic No 1 in Dniprovskyy district in Petra Zaporozhtsya Street, 26 – lecturer Natalya Yevgenivna Zhelnaruk; in polyclinic No 2 in Golosiyivskyy district in Yakubovskyy Street, 6 – lecturer Larysa Arkadiyivna Bespalko.

The action “Open your eyes at glaucoma” was held at SC Ashan Petrivka and SC Ashan Bilychi, was held on 14, March, 2015 in order to support Glaucoma Week at the initiative from MHC of Ukraine, O.O. Bohomolets NMU; it included the informing the population about glaucoma, its diagnostics and treatment, measurement of ocular pressure to all desired people, performance of Armsler test, mini consultations.

Due to results from action over 400 citizens, who received the informative brochures, were examined free of charge. The qualified recommendations were given to patients, at whom they found the higher ocular pressure, and they were sent for further examination and treatment.

The specialists from district polyclinics took part in action, thus there was the possibility to measure the ocular pressure at all desired people. The information about glaucoma and events, performed by specialists, were widely described in mass media and social networks. In particular, the press conference of leading specialists from MHC of Ukraine, HCD in c. Kyiv, department of ophthalmology at O.O. Bohomolets National medical university was held on Wednesday, 11, March, 2015 on the base of Oleksandrivska clinical hospital.
